Physical activity before, during and after your dialysis treatment can prevent restlessness in your legs and cramps.
It can also prevent fatigue.
You can customise the exercises to suit you and your physical activity level.
With very few exercises you can do something good for yourself and your body.
When you are waiting for your dialysis treatment or when you are waiting for transportation home,
you can take a walk either on the treadmill or in the corridor or outside if the weather and other conditions permit it.
You can also bike on a chair bike.
When you are physically active during dialysis treatment,
you must make sure that your dialysis machine is correctly positioned in relation to the hoses between the dialysis machine and you.
You must be able to reach any alarms on the machine.
You must also make sure that you are sitting in a good position in bed or on the chair.
Your pillow must be well-positioned under your head.
If you have a fistula, your arms must be well-positioned.
Perhaps it should be fastened with an attention cord.
If you have a fistula, you must make sure that the needles are properly fixed with bandages
so that you do not risk that they move while exercising.
If you have a dialysis catheter, you must make sure that the hose does not get pinched between you and the dialysis machine during exercising.
When you exercise during dialysis treatment, you should be able to feel it in your muscles.
But if you feel discomfort, you should take a break or stop exercising that day.
When you are finished exercising during dialysis treatment, you must be aware of your blood sugar.
Physical training can mean that your blood sugar changes.
If you sweat, then make sure that the bandages stay in place.
If you have a fistula or a graft, you must be aware that
exercising with that arm can make the holes that have been made open up again.
Do not remove the bandages too quickly.
