If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, you will probably have a lot of questions.
Irrespective of whether you have type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes, food can be one of the areas where you may have questions.
In this film I will tell you where to seek help and support if you have questions about food and drink.

It is the type of diabetes you have that determines where you can apply for help and support.
If you have type 1 diabetes, you will be monitored and treated in one of the country's out-patient clinics.
This takes place at a hospital.
There you can seek help and advice on food and drink from a clinical dietician.
You should therefore contact your local out-patient clinic to find out what they have to offer.

If you have type 2 diabetes, you will primarily be monitored and treated by your own doctor.
In special cases, your treatment will take place at a hospital.
If your treatment is conducted at a diabetes out-patient clinic, you have the opportunity to speak to a clinical dietician.
If you are monitored and treated by your own doctor, you have the opportunity to be referred to patient training in your municipality.
You should be aware that all municipalities differ in what they have to offer.
You must therefore inquire with your local municipality or your own doctor about what offers are available to you.

Offers may for example consist of a digital course that you take via your laptop, smartphone or tablet, a group course, as well as fitness training if necessary.
It is a characteristic of the offers that you acquire broad knowledge about how to live with diabetes, knowledge about food as well as the importance of food.
Some municipalities also offer personal dialogues with a dietician.
They can provide you with guidance concerning food and lifestyle.
A dietician can typically help you with knowledge about how food affects your diabetes, and how it affects your blood sugar, help you with your desire for a possible change of diet and guidance concerning that, make you aware of motivation and habits, help you with your weight development needs, give you knowledge about the interaction between food, exercise and medication.

You can also contact a private clinical dietician and seek support there.
In addition to the offers mentioned here, you can find information and inspiration on the web.
For example, you can find advice about how to eat in compliance with the official advice provided by The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration on their homepage “All about Diet”.
You can also find inspiration and recipes as well as guidance about things to be aware of on the website of the Danish Diabetes Association.
Remember that the treatment of your diabetes is an individual matter.
This means that there may be differences in what is good for you to eat compared to what other people with diabetes benefit from eating.
