In this film, I will show you how you can do the blowing sound exercise so that you can breathe better.

It is a good idea to open windows and doors during this exercise so that you get a little fresh air inside the room before starting.

We will do the blowing sound exercise, and when doing this exercise it is important that you crease your lips slightly,
so that you bulge out a little with your mouth
and then try to blow
while adding a little resistance while exhaling.

Yes. Try again!
Very good.

Adding a little resistance while exhaling means that you open some of the small alveoli down in your lungs,
and if you are about to have a lung infection or if you have a lung infection, then this will help remove some of the mucus you have in your lungs.

It is almost the same feeling as when you blow on soup which is too hot.

And it is a good idea to blow longer, for more than a couple seconds.

Then you get the most effect from it and you empty your lungs a bit.

So a big, deep breath and a long exhale.

And there may be some sound.

Yes, very good.

You should do this exercise up to 30 times in a row, so 30 breaths,
and then take a break.

You can do this 4 to 5 times a day.

If this blowing exercise does not really work for you, then it might be a good idea for you to use what is called a PEP device instead.

But a PEP device is something which you are given either when you are admitted in a hospital or at your doctor.

It is usually a physiotherapist who will give you this when you are admitted in a hospital, and they are available in many different versions and with different resistance,
so it is very important that a medical professional instructs you in the use of a PEP device.

If you are very short of breath, you may need oxygenation,
so you should speak with your own doctor or speak with the doctor there when you are admitted.

I have now shown you how you can do the blowing sound exercise which can help improve your breathing.
