If you want to stay in your own home, you can get help from the municipality with practical tasks, and daily nursing and care.
You will be able to speak to the carer about any problems that might arise, and they will be able to help you find the correct solution to your problem.
Furthermore, you can be in close contact with your GP, and you can have an agreement for open admission with the hospital ward you may be associated.
Family or friends can get compassionate leave to care for a close relative with life-threatening illness.
This may take place in the home of the patient, family or friend.
It can be a demanding job to care for a dying relative at home, although the municipality has to make home care services available to care for the patients and to do practical tasks.
The municipality can also relieve the caregiver, so they have the possibility to take time off.
This may be necessary for longer periods of care.
In these instances, the cost of medication, medical equipment, home modifications and assistive devices are paid for by the municipality.
The idea is that it should not cost more to be cared for at home than if you were admitted to a hospital.
Some seriously ill patients may have such severe symptoms during the care period that it requires specialised palliative care.
In this situation, you may be linked to a palliative team that provides specialist palliative efforts during the daytime.
A palliative team is specially trained to alleviate troublesome symptoms.
A palliative team may consist of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, social workers, psychologists and a priest.
They can give you advice and guidance right away via the telephone, and they can visit you in your home or at the hospital after you've been hospitalised.
