A prerequisite for your medication working is that you take it correctly. This means that you take the right drug in the right dosage at the right time and in the right way. For example, some medications must be taken with meals while others are to be taken staggered in relation to meals.
When you take medicine, it is a good idea to put it into your daily routine so that you remember to take it. For example, this can be at meals or when you brush your teeth. You can also use the pharmacy’s app, Medicinhusker, or an alarm on your watch or mobile phone.
To avoid doubt as to whether you have taken your medication, you can use a dosette box, an app or a schedule where you check off when you have taken your medication. You can get an overview of your medication on your electronic medicine card or from your doctor. Here, you can see what your medicine is called and how much and how often you should take it.
When you receive new medication, it is important that you ask your doctor if there is anything special which you should be aware of and how long you should take the medicine. If you experience adverse reactions, ineffectiveness or if you have difficulty taking medicine, then speak with your doctor. It is important that you do not change your medication yourself. A double dose of the medication is not twice as good, just as a half dose does not cause half as many adverse reactions.
Medicine can often come in various forms, for example pills, suppositories or oral liquids. Speak with your doctor about what is best for you. It may also be helpful to crush or divide pills rather than take a whole pill. But remember to always ask the pharmacy or your doctor if your pills may be crushed or divided.
