Your doctor will usually diagnose type 2 diabetes based on a measurement of your long-term blood sugar.
We measure your long-term blood sugar in a blood sample.
We also call long-term blood sugar HBA1C.

Your long-term blood sugar indicates your blood sugar level within the past 2–3 months.
If your long-term blood sugar is 48 milimol per litre or more, the doctor may diagnose type 2 diabetes.
Your doctor will always conduct 2 measurements to be absolutely sure.

Another way to test for type 2 diabetes is by a so-called sugar load test.
Here you must drink 75 grammes of sugar water while fasting.

After 2 hours, your blood sugar will be measured, and if your blood sugar level is 11.1 milimol per litre or more, your doctor will diagnose type 2 diabetes.

If your doctor measures a random blood sugar level of 11.1 milimol per litre or more, and if you also have symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination and weight loss, you will also be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

If you receive type 2 diabetes diagnosis, your doctor will examine you further, so that you can get the best possible treatment.
