There may be a small filter in your hearing aid which needs replacement. The filter protects the speaker, and therefore it is important that it is replaced so that the speaker does not get damaged. It should be replaced approximately once a month or as needed. If you generate a lot of earwax or have moisture in your ears, it should be replaced more often. If you have an in-ear device, then the filters can look like this.

There are brief instructions for use which should accompany the package with the filters.

There is a small barb and a brand new filter.

Press the barb into the old filter, pull up, take the new filter and press it in. This one you just throw away.

On some in-ear devices there can also be some extra tiny filters that need to be replaced in the same way.

Perhaps you have a small rubber globe at the end, or a dome as we call it. You remove this. The filter is underneath.

It can look like this.

You remove a small “match”.

A barb in the one end and the new filter in the other end.

Pull up the old filter, turn it around, and press the new filter into place. And then throw the old one out. Now you put the rubber dome on again.

Like this. It is of course important that it is put on correctly, so that the dome does not stay in your ear the next time you remove the device.

The last possibility is that you have a moulded plug. The filter can look like this.

A tool on the end – and some instructions on the back.

There is a small thread of a screw in the one end. Press this carefully down into the old filter, turn it and pull the old filter off. You can now turn your wheel to a new, fresh filter.

This pulls it up. Like this.

And press down, and give it a half turn. Like this.

And put the tool back again.

When you need to order your filters, you must use the ordering card which you received from your audiological department. They can also look different depending on the company. We have of course helped you by checking off all the right places.

If you experience problems with moisture in your ears or have lots of earwax, then it might be a good idea to consider buying a drying box for your device. This extends the lifespan and can be done from a company that supplies the devices. You can also get a slightly smaller model which you buy at your pharmacy.
