Breathing is a vital function that your body performs without having to think about it. Our bodies are built primarily to use the diaphragm to breathe. The diaphragm is the flat muscle situated like a floor between the chest and the lungs, and the abdominal cavity with the stomach and intestines. When we breathe, we need to activate our diaphragm muscle. This is important for good breathing. But there are several things that help you breathe well. Here are four tips to follow: First, close your mouth and breathe through your nose. Second, relax your jaw and tongue. Do not clench your teeth. Let your jaw relax inside your mouth. Leave your tongue wide and soft so that it covers the teeth of the lower mouth. Let your tongue rest against the inside of your lower lip. Thirdly: Use your diaphragm muscles to breathe. You can feel this as a forward movement of your stomach, just below your ribs. And fourthly: Do not take deep breaths. When you exhale, let the air escape again until your chest feels relaxed. Research shows that these breathing tips are good for people with asthma. But the same advice can be used by people with other lung diseases. It’s also a good way to breathe for anyone else who does not have lung disease.
