After the operation, there will be a 15 to 20 cm long surgical wound down over the knee. The wound is closed with clips or sutures.
The amount of fluid that leaks from the wound differs greatly. Some people experience no fluid from the wound, while others feel that quite a lot of bloody fluid leaks from the wound.
If there's a lot of fluid – this is more usual during the first few days after the surgery. Thereafter it decreases.
A bandage must cover the surgical wound until the sutures or clips are removed, 14 days after the operation. During that time the bandage must be replaced if it becomes loose and leaks, or when it's two thirds filled with blood or fluid.
