It is important that you try to keep your whole body in shape before the surgery, so that you quickly can start feeling better again afterwards. The better shape you're in before the operation, the easier it is for you to get started with your everyday activities and rehabilitation.
Of course it can be difficult to do in practice, if you have a lot of pain and find it difficult to move. Do what you can when you have the energy, and preferably as often as possible.
After the operation you'll have to use crutches. This requires quite a lot from your arms and shoulders. Also, your leg which wasn't operated on will also be more strained right after the surgery, when your other leg hurts and feels heavy.
Therefore, it is important that you try to keep your body in shape before the operation. The better shape you are in before surgery, the sooner you can get well again after surgery.
